Villa Borghese is one of the biggest and richest ville of Rome, it was built for the Cardinal Scipione Borghese, famous patron of artists and collectionist of masterpieces, and favourite nephew of pope Paul V Borghese at the begining of the XVII century. The villa was built as Museum, like a place of culture, pleasure,reflection and contemplation of the nature, with its big garden.
Villa Borghese was made to remaind to the richness of the ancient roman houses, like the Golden house of Nero. Inside we can admire beautiful artworks, like the neoclassical Paolina Bonaparte, of Antonio Canova, the baroque statues of Bernini: the David, Apollo and Daphne, Pluto and Proserpina, Aeneas and Anchise, and the portrait of Scipione. Caravaggio with his self-portraits, the Madonna of the Palafrenieri, David with the head of Goliath and S. John the Baptist. And also Raphael, with the beautiful “Deposition Borghese”, Tiziano with his “Sacred and profane Love” gift for a wedding of a nobile couple, Correggio, Lorenzo Lotto, Rubens, Domenichino and Antonello da Messina.
